The finale of Fallout: New Vegas allows players to shape the future of the Mojave Wasteland on their own terms. By choosing the independent path with Yes Man, players trigger the decisive main quest known as No Gods No Masters. This climax requires strategic decision-making, intense combat, and high-level skill checks to secure total freedom for New Vegas.
Infiltrating Hoover Dam and Override Placement
To begin the operation, players must travel to Hoover Dam and make their way toward the primary control facility. Reaching the terminal requires pushing past crossfire between NCR forces and Legion units patrolling the exterior. Inside the control room, players must install the override chip to hand system access over to Yes Man.
After installing the chip, players face a critical tactical choice regarding the dam's power grid. You can either reroute electrical power to activate the subterranean Securitron army or overload the generators to destroy the infrastructure completely. Each choice alters how Yes Man projects authority over the surrounding region following the battle.
Securing the Eastern Power Plant
Once the initial override sequence is complete, the player must navigate to Hoover Dam Power Plant 1. Moving through the facility requires caution as remnant hostile forces attempt to block your path. Locating the main electrical switch on the upper level allows you to direct energy where needed.
Flipping the switch powers up the eastern sector and activates your supporting units for the battle outside. Players who preserved the upgraded Securitrons under Fortification Hill will see automated reinforcements join the fray. This significant influx of firepower turns the tide against opposing factions on the dam's surface.
Confronting Legate Lanius at the Camp
Crossing to the eastern side of the dam leads directly to the formidable Legate's Camp. Players must battle through wave after wave of elite Caesar's Legion defenders to reach the commander's hilltop tent. Legate Lanius presents one of the most formidable final combat challenges in the entire game.
Combat is not the only path forward when dealing with the Legion's top general. Players with a Speech or Barter skill of 100 can convince Lanius that holding the Mojave will ultimately destroy the Legion. Successfully passing these high skill checks prompts Lanius to withdraw his army peacefully.
Resolving the Conflict with General Oliver
After dealing with Lanius, returning to the camp gate triggers a final standoff with NCR General Lee Oliver. Backed by heavy ranger bodyguards, Oliver demands that the Courier yield control of the dam to the Republic. You must decide whether to engage his squad in battle or resolve the standoff diplomatically.
Using a 100 Speech or Barter skill check allows you to convince General Oliver to pull NCR forces out of the region. Alternatively, players can command Yes Man to physically remove the general from the dam in a memorable fashion. Confirming the outcome with Yes Man officially concludes the campaign and initiates the final ending slides.
